Today's topic is Keyword Research.

Your "keywords" are the words that people are most likely to type into the search engines such as Google to find websites dealing with that topic.

For example, let's say you sell beach chairs or equipment. Your probable keywords would be "beach chairs," or maybe "beach gear" and "snorkel" "scuba" etc.

So when you're getting ready to build a website or add a product line to your existing site, it's really important that you understand what you're dealing with in terms of traffic for your keywords.

If you optimize your site for keywords that don't get traffic, or for traffic that doesn't convert, you'll be wasting a lot of time and energy.

A great tool that we use to help with our keyword research is a free tool made by Word tracker http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

This free tool gives you daily traffic data gathered from the search engines. If your keyword doesn't get much traffic, you may want to broaden your research or try to optimize for different keywords that do support traffic.
